Wood Badge

Wood Badge is the advanced training program for all Boy Scout Leadership (Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity and Venture Leaders). Wood Badge is designed to train adult volunteer leaders, and professionals. Using the latest teaching methods and models, the Wood Badge course will equip you with skills and techniques that will help you be a better leader in your Scout unit, at work, with your family and with other organizations. Starting in 1919, and continuing today, Wood Badge is the premier leadership training offered by the Boy Scouts of America.

Who: To attend a Wood Badge course, you must:

    1. Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America. There is no minimum tenure requirement.
    2. Have completed the basic training course for your Scouting position.
    3. Have completed the outdoor skills training program appropriate for your Scouting position.  (Required for Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Varsity coaches and assistants.  The Introduction of Outdoor Leader Skill training is highly recommended for all other participants attending Wood Badge course.)
    4. Be capable of functioning safely in an outdoor environment. A current BSA Annual Health and Medical Record parts A, B and C (replaces the Class 3 form) physical is required for all participants.

Because of the advanced nature of this training, the requirements above may not be waived. It is recommended that the participants have at least some camping experience, as weekend two is an outdoor experience.

Where and When: Session one of Wood Badge Course S8-16-11-1 will be held at Camp Orr near Jasper, Arkansas.  Session two will be held at Rogers Scout Reservation near Ione, Arkansas. Participants must attend both sessions of course activities to complete the practical phase and successfully complete their approved Wood Badge ticket for course completion.

Supplemental Training for Special Focus

Great Topics Available in Supplemental Training Modules!

Supplemental training modules are designed to provide orientation beyond the basic training offered in New Leader Essentials and leader-specific training. Each module is a unit of training that can be used as an outline for a group, for personal coaching, or for self-study. Most of the outlines should require about an hour to complete. Consider each unit of study to be an introduction to the subject. Scouters are welcome to download subjects that are of interest for personal or unit use. There are no training credits associated with the completion of these units of study. Additional training units are being developed and will be continually added to this site.

Take this link to access PDF versions of training supplements on many topics. http://www.scouting.org/BoyScouts/TrainingModules.aspx
